FAQ’s

Is chiropractic addictive? Once you start going do you have to go the rest of your life?

No. The benefits and increased quality of life that may come from chiropractic treatments can be addictive, but the treatment itself is not. There is no dependency associated with it. Chiropractic can help to get rid of the pain and correct problems making the person healthier, and good health is addictive. Our goal is to correct the problem and teach the patient the necessary actions to do at home to continue strengthening their spine so that frequent care to the office is not needed.

What is the education of a Chiropractor?

Chiropractors are doctors. The curriculum parallels medical or dental school very similarly except when medical students focus on drugs and surgery, or dental students focus on the mouth, chiropractic students are studying the spine and musculoskeletal issues, and the different ways to correct problems associated with them. Chiropractors are required to pass 4 demanding National Board Exams as well as State board exams. Also Chiropractors are required to be involved in continuing education through out their whole career.

Do children need Chiropractic care?

The earlier a problem can be detected the easier and quicker it can be corrected. Children are involved in a lot of trauma. From birth itself to constantly falling and banging themselves, to dealing with a growing body, children are putting strains on their bodies. While typically they are great at overcoming these things, it is better to have them checked for things now, then to have them discover them years later and have the correction process take much longer.

Can I see a chiropractor when I am pregnant?

Yes! With how demanding pregnancy is on the body, along with all the changes the body and joints have to go through, it is well advised to make sure that the spine and pelvis are aligned and moving properly. While back pain in pregnancy is common, it isn’t normal and there are ways to prevent it. There are many techniques used that are safe and gentle on the baby and mother and the benefits are amazing

Do Chiropractors take x-rays?

There are times when they are needed. Just like a Dentist can feel where cavities are, it is much more effective to take an x-ray to help see what is going on. When x-rays are determined necessary, this extra information is utilized in helping to figure out exactly where the problem is. There are many things that can’t be seen without an x-ray. The radiation is minimal. Living in a higher elevation place like Utah is the equivalent of an x-ray a day more radiation than living in California due to the thinner atmosphere.

Is Chiropractic care expensive?

While care may seem expensive at first, it has been shown that chiropractic patients take less drugs and require less surgeries then the normal population, in turn saving them thousands of dollars over the years. Think of the costs as an investment on your health that will return 100 fold. With preventative care, expensive intensive care becomes a rarity.

Is a good massage or workout or physical therapy the same as Chiropractic care?

While care may seem expensive at first, it has been shown that chiropractic patients take less drugs and require less surgeries then the normal population, in turn saving them thousands of dollars over the years. Think of the costs as an investment on your health that will return 100 fold. With preventative care, expensive intensive care becomes a rarity.

Is Chiropractic safe?

Yes. Chiropractors’ malpractice insurance typically runs around $100 to $1000 a year. This is much lower then almost any other health profession. This is due to the high level of training that Chiropractors go through to ensure the patients safety in all matters. While Osteopaths and other professions can be trained in adjusting the spine, no profession spends years in their curriculum learning the fine art of adjusting the spine. Chiropractic is safe!

Can I adjust myself or have a family member adjust me?

No. Since a Chiropractic adjustment is a specific force, applied in a specific direction to a specific joint, it is virtually impossible to adjust oneself correctly and accurately. It is possible to create a “popping” sound by twisting or turning a certain way but often this is causing more problems by making an already unstable joint even more unstable.

Can a person who has had back surgery see a chiropractor?

Yes! Unfortunately up to half of people who have had back surgery experience a return of their symptoms just moths or years later. Often they will have multiple back surgeries. Chiropractic has been shown to help with the symptoms and prevent unnecessary surgery whether it is your first surgery or a multiple one.

Is everyone adjusted the same way?

No. We have multiple ways of adjusting the spine. When treatment includes all different ages, obviously there needs to be many treatments available. At Gunn Chiropractic, your needs and concerns are discussed and only a treatment that you feel completely at ease with will be done. Everyone responds differently to different treatments and adjustments are made throughout.
